Reframing Everyday Moments as Adventures

Nov 28 Leave a Comment

Thank you Maxi-Cosi for sponsoring this post. Keep your little adventurers comfy, safe & stylish with the Maxi-Cosi Magellan™ Max 5-in-1 Convertible Car Seat!

Even though summer is my fourth favorite season, I was determined to make summer 2018 my family’s best one yet. I had grand visions for how these precious months would play out: trips to the lake twice a month, a road trip up to Lake Geneva, lots of trips to the pool. But as I mentioned in a previous post, the summer I envisioned was not quite the summer I got. Between recovering from a miscarriage and then a surprise surgery, our summer plans became a lot smaller and closer to home.

Selah is at a golden age right now, my favorite one so far—she’s 2.5 and fiercely independent; she is brave and loves going on big slides and big rides; she loves to be outdoors and run around and explore every bit of the earth in front of her. So when my big summer dreams for this fun phase were dashed, I had to come up with some new ones. I had to decide that our everyday activities could be adventures too.

Sometimes an everyday adventure meant stopping for donuts on the way home from a doctor’s appointment. Sometimes it meant taking on the grocery store as a family outing instead of me or Dan scrambling to do it on a lunch break. As it turns out, Selah doesn’t yet understand the difference between everyday and extraordinary—to her, everything is still a grand adventure.

By reframing these small moments as significant and special, I found myself more present in my life—even in tasks that used to drag me down. I videoed Selah as she danced down the grocery-store aisles, pretending each one was her personal stage, and I couldn’t help but laugh when she tried to sneak a bag of marshmallows into the cart. My heart burst as I watched her learning to ride her new tricycle on the sidewalk in front of our house. And when we finally did make it up to the lake, I knew what a gift it was to feast on charcoal-grilled burgers and sneak out for one more boat ride as the sun set. I watched Dan holding Selah at the front of the boat as the sun dipped lower, lighting her wild hair on fire, and I felt a sense of peace that I did the best I could this summer.

In these everyday adventures, the Maxi-Cosi Magellan™ Max 5-in-1 Convertible Car Seat has been there to keep Selah protected en route to all our destinations near and far. After a summer full of less-than-stellar surprises, it gives me such peace of mind to know that she’s both snug and safe wherever we go.

The Magellan™ Max 5-in-1 Convertible Car Seat is built specifically for growing children—its 5-in-1 convertible design can be used for children from birth (5 lbs.) to age 10 (up to 120 lbs.). It has five modes of use—Baby Rear-Facing, Toddler Rear-Facing, Toddler Forward-Facing, Child Forward-Facing, and Belt Positioning Booster—meaning it will see us through not just Selah’s 2-year-old summer, but through a whole childhood of summer memories.

The Magellan™ Max 5-in-1 Convertible Car Seat (ARV $399.99 ea.) comes in beautiful, fashionable colors like Nomad Blue, Nomad Sand, Nomad Purple, Nomad Black, Nomad Grey. You can find it at Albee Baby, Nordstrom and Buy Buy Baby and other specialty retailers.

As we transition to each new season (I simply can’t believe winter is already upon us), I’m trying to bring my everyday-adventures mentality with me. Whether we check off all of my favorite holiday activities (like seeing the Macy’s windows in downtown Chicago) or only make it as far as our sofa for hot cocoa and a Christmas movie, we will still have plenty of moments and memories to savor.

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of CLEVER and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
